SCV in the forefront of CEE Women in VC

CEE Women in VC Meetup

On October 18th, 2017 at Google Campus in Warsaw Poland the first CEE Women in VC  Meetup took place. 60 women from 13 countries, 27 speakers, 6 panels and 8h of in-depth sharing of experience and knowledge.
More than 60 women from the venture capital industry met at a conference initiated by Experior Venture Fund, with an organization committee of women from 6 countries including our own Tatjana Zabasu. They gathered in Warsaw to discuss challenges facing women in finance and VC community, tighter cooperation, as well as ways to increase the inflow of funds to the venture capital industry in CEE and their investments into promising businesses.

The Initiative

Over the last decade the proportion of women partners categorised as key decision makers in VC firms has declined from 10% to 6% (according to Babson College Study). VC fuels high growth companies of tomorrow. We believe that to have a diverse set of decision makers is more advantageous for the VC industry. It allows higher returns to investors, more inclusive culture and higher possibility to fund women entrepreneurs.

CEE Women in VC is a joint initiative of women from seven countries. Organizing committee involves Tatjana Zabasu, Managing Partner at South Central Ventures,  Olga Afanasyeva, Executive Director at Ukrainian VC & PE Association, Marzena Bielecka, Managing Partner at Experior Venture Fund – Poland, Silke Horakova, Chief Executive Director at Czech PE & VC Association, Kinga Stanislawska, Managing Partner at Experior Venture Fund – Poland, Zlatolina Mukova, Partner at Neveq – Bulgaria, Sille Pettai, Fund Manager at SmartCap – Estonia, Ibolya Pinter, Manager at Hungarian PE & VC Association

Tatjana Zabasu

Our Managing Partner Tatjana Zabasu, as one of the pioneers in this field, has represented the Western Balkans. Tatjana has served as Women in VC ambassador and strongly supported the initiative from the very beginning. During the Meetup she shared her experience in VC investing in the panel discussion. One of the organisers and Managing partner of Experior Venture Fund, Ms Kinga Stanislawska was recently named one of the TOP 50 of Europe’s most influential women in the start-up and venture capital space.
South Central Venture welcomes this initiative and will continue to support the initiatives to increase the presence of women in tech and VC.
